Mt. Pinatubo
Mount Pinatubo, a volcano located about 30 kilometers east of Oasis Hotel, made history when erupted in June 1991. The volcanic eruption is said to be the biggest eruption in 80 years after Krakatoa Volcano in Java, Indonesia. Its effects are felt until today, not only on the local area, but worldwide. Villages buried by mudflows and the lake at the crater is sight to behold. Pinatubo Treks and Tours are available through ravines, canyons, mountain pools and lahar fields.

Sinukwan Festival City (City of San Fernando; first week of December)
The highlight of the week-long festivities of Pampanga’s Foundation Day. It adds the culture and distinct beliefs of Kapampangans through a colorful street parade along the capital town of San Fernando and a province-wide dance competition showcasing indigenous rituals and music.

Cutud Lenten Rites (City of San Fernando; every Good Friday)
A re-enactment of Christ’s Passion and death complete with passion play culminating with actual nailing of at least three flagellants to a wooden cross atop the makeshift calvary.

Giant Lantern Festival (City of San Fernando; December 3)
A parade of ornate and cleverly illuminated giant lanterns, some of which reach 40 ft. in diameter and make use as many as 1,600 light bulbs.

La Naval Fiesta (Angeles City)
Held in commemoration of the Virgin of the Holy Rosary whose intercession said the victory of the Spanish Fleet over the Dutch invaders. Celebrated with religious programs and the finest food and dinks from Kapampangan homes.



RELIGIOUS

Apu Chapel (Angeles City, Pampanga)
This is the shrine of our Lord of the Holy Sepulcher (Apung Macalulu) Devotees from all over Pampanga flock to this shrine every Friday to venerate the supposed the miraculous image of Jesus Christ lying in the sepulcher. It is also every Friday when people buy household items, clothing including audio-video equipment in a makeshift “tiange”

Holy Rosary Cathedral (Angeles City Pampanga)
Located at the intersection of Sto. Rosario and Sto. Entierro St., the Holy Rosary church was constructed from 1877 to 1896 by the townspeople of Angeles by forced labor system known as “polos y servicios” imposed by the Spanish colonial government. From 1899 to 1900 was used by the army as military hospital. In 1896-1898, the backyard of the church execution grounds to the Spanish forces shooting down Filipino rebel and suspects. It has beautiful transient and measures 70 m. long, 20 m. wide and 12m. high. The dominant element of façade is the symmetry created by recessed arched windows, which are in harmony with the segmented ones.

San Guillermo Parish Church (Bacolor, Pampanga)
It is one of the oldest and largest churches in Pampanga. It was constructed by the Augustinian friars in 1576 on the lot of Don Guillermo Manabat, a rich landlord believed to be founder of Bacolor. The church was restored by Manuel Diaz in 1897. The church measured 56m. long, 15m. wide and 12m. high. It has a central nave and an ample and well-lighted transept with windows. The main retablo, side retablos and pulpit are gilded with gold leaf. The richness of the decoration of Bacolor is indicative of the advanced stage of its baroque style. In spite of the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo, which half-buried the church on Oct. 1, 1995, masses are still held every Sunday morning.

Betis Catholic Church (Guagua, Pampanga)
The jewel in the crown is the Betis Church (Santiago de Galicia Parish) built on early 1700s and repaired continually throughout the 1800s. The unadorned exterior does not prepare the visitor for what he’s about to witness inside: the main altar (retablo) with ornate carvings and saints peering out of the niches like ancient dolls, and the paintings on the ceiling that attracts comparison with the Sistine Chapel. NCAA declared this church a National Treasure, one of the only ten churches in the country bestowed that honor. The main attraction is the original ceiling mural done by the falous Simon Flores (1839-1904). Not to be missed are the original Simon Flores artesian well (dug in)

Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies (Angeles City)
Houses a research center, museum gallery and theatre that provide access to materials on Kapampangan culture and history.

Museo ning Angeles
A center for the rich cultural history of Angeles City. Periodically features exhibit the heritage, culture and tradition of Angeles City and its people.

Bale Herencia
The imposing house built in 1860 by a parish priest of Angeles along Lakandula and Sto Rosario Streets. It was restored in 1988 and continues to this day. The current owners now use it as a banquet hall.

Founder’s House (Angeles City)
Located along Sto. Rosario Street in the old section of Angeles, the Founder’s House is the oldest structure and best-preserved ancestral house in the city. The house was built in 1824 and was inherited by Dona Juana de Miranda de Henson, the only daughter of Angeles City’s founders. Restoration started in 1980 and continues to this day. A marker was placed by the National Historical Institute on its front adobe walls.

Camalig
Now the home of Armando’s Pizza, Camalig is restored grain storehouse nestled between Angeles City’s two oldest houses along Sto. Rosario St. It was built in 1840 by Don Ciriaco de Miranda, Angeles’ first gobernadorcillo (mayor) and restored in 1980 by the late Armando L. Nepomuceno.


CULTURAL

Hilaga Cultural Village
San Fernando, Pampanga-located at the mouth of the San Fernando Toll Exit along North Luzon Expressway, North Philippines Hilaga (formerly Paskuhan Village) was transformed into cultural, historical, tourism, trade and entertainment village by former Secretary Richard Gordon in 2003. Its design and concept make it a virtual window to the cultural and historical heritage of the regions of the North Philippines as well as showcase for the indigenous products, shaped pavilions at the center pays tribute to the skilled lantern makers of San Fernando which produces the biggest lanterns in the world. The complex features a 1,000 seat capacity air conditioned pavilion for conventions and events, an open air amphitheatre for outdoor activities, air conditioned exhibit halls, trade booths, garden restos and an 60-seat capacity conference hall.

Furniture and Woodcarving Industry (Angeles City, Pampanga)
Woodcarving and furniture making are two of the oldest professions in Angeles as its local population has become highly skilled in the art over a hundred years especially catering to Americans during the Clark Air Base period. A village near Clarkfield Cauyan showcases world-class quality furniture’s owned by businessman Ruperto Cruz including factories for export-quality rattan and wrought-iron furniture’s. Other towns known for this enterprise are the towns of  Lubao and Guagua, particularly Betis made famous for its guitar-making industry. In fact Betis artisan are known to have produced the first wooden chandeliers installed in Malacanang Palace.

Mt. Arayat (Arayat)
Rising above sea level by 3,300 ft. this legendary wonder of Mother Nature boasts of lush green vegetation and wildlife sanctuary. Visitors to the area are welcomed by its invigorating mountain coupled with nature’s serenity. At the foot of the mountain visitors are prone to experience the rejuvenating effect of cool mountain s at the Arayat National Park.
